The A. G. LEVENTIS FOUNDATION awards every year a number of educational grants to assist studies or research at a high academic level.
The Foundation’s educational grants scheme is limited to post-graduate studies or research based on solid achievement at undergraduate level or in previous post-graduate studies. Applications by secondary-school leavers or undergraduates already enrolled who have not yet obtained their first University degree will not be considered.
Applications are examined by the Foundation during its annual review of grants at the end June/beginning July when awards are decided for the academic year starting in September/October. The applicants that study in Greece or France should expect the Foundations decisions in mid-September, applicants that study elsewhere in mid-July. The deadline of the deposit of applications for both cases is the same.
Applicants studying in Greece or Cyprus should apply in Greek; applicants studying in France should apply in French; and applicants studying in other countries should apply in English.
In order to be examined, applications should reach our Paris address: “The A.G. Leventis Foundation, 86, avenue Foch, 75116 Paris”, before 15th June. Any applications received after that date will not be examined. If they are submitted much earlier in the year, they will require updating. The most appropriate time to apply is between mid-April and the 15th June deadline.
Candidates may submit their request in a letter addressed to the A.G. Leventis Foundation. Applications must include:
1) Curriculum vitae
2) Copy of secondary school diploma
3) Copies of subsequent academic degrees
4) Copy of letter of acceptance by University where candidate intends to pursue post-graduate studies
5) Personal statement including a brief description of planned course of study or research project
6) A letter of recommendation by a University teacher
7) Clear indication of length of course or project and expected date of completion
8) Estimated costs of tuition and living expenses and information on financial resources available to the applicant.
If candidates ensure that complete and precise information is included in their application (postal addresses, e-mail addresses and telephone numbers are essential), they will avoid undesirable delays in the processing of their case.
Documents in support of applications should be photocopies, not originals. It is not necessary to enclose publications, books, articles or offprints, bearing in mind that supporting documents cannot be returned to the applicants even if a grant is not approved.
In addition to these documents, an electronic form (Excel Document) of an Application will be sent to the applicants by e-mail. This Application Form must be filled by the applicants following the instructions carefully. It contains two sheets:
- Sheet 1: This is the part that needs to be filled out by typing the requested information on line 6 ONLY as the rest of the lines have been blocked so that no modifications can be made to the Form.
- Sheet 2: Contains Instructions and an Example for filling out this form.
The completed Application Form must be sent back by email by 15th of June at the address aglf@leventisparis.com.
Selection is made from a large number of well-qualified candidates and competition is often keen. Criteria applied are scholastic ability measured in terms of previous academic record and economic situation of the candidate. Additional factors determining selection include: field of study or research project chosen, country and University where candidates have been admitted, length of programme planned. All these factors are carefully considered in the interests of equity, balance and quality.
Candidates are warned that if they obtain a grant it will not cover the total estimated costs but will at best be a partial contribution towards the expense involved. They are therefore encouraged to seek actively alternative sources of financing and to mention them in their application.
Grants are made by the A.G. Leventis Foundation on an annual basis to cover the next academic year. The grants are usually paid in two remittances to the beneficiary’s bank account, one half in October and the second half in January. Beneficiaries are required to be regularly enrolled as full-time post-graduate students at a University or other equivalent institution of higher studies, and to maintain a satisfactory academic standard. They should send from time to time progress reports on their work. At the end of the academic year, if renewal of their grant is required, they should submit a report on progress achieved in their studies or research project, so that the Foundation may decide on eventual renewal of their grant for a further academic year, enabling them to continue the course of study undertaken.
Taking into consideration this information, candidates are invited: to ascertain that they qualify as to level of studies, to include in their application the precise elements required, and to submit it within the prescribed time limits so that it may be properly evaluated.
