Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics

Since 1998, the Foundation has been sponsoring a gene research therapy programme at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, under the guidance of Dr Leonidas Phylactou. This research is focused on developing ways to tackle such diseases as myotonic dystrophy (muscular dystrophy), and inherited deafness, by repairing the underlying genetic problem. Much of this research is specifically relevant to diseases affecting many Cypriot people, and already advances made in 2010 are directly responsible for the establishment of a new screening service at CING, which helps diagnose families with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia. The Foundation’s grant is therefore already facilitating practical application of this research, as well as underpinning a wider, crucial pushing of more academic scientific boundaries.

Grants given:

1998-2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022
