The Cyprus Centre for Environmental Research and Education

Α non-profit organisation founded by the Holy Bishopric of Lemessos, the Cyprus Centre for Environmental Research and Education (CY.C.E.R.E.) is located in the Akrotiri Peninsula. The first independent environmental centre of its kind on Cyprus, it contributes to environmental conservation by adopting and promoting strategies in environmental education, research and information. In 2014, the support of the A. G. Leventis Foundation subsidised ten educational programmes on environmental education designed by CY.C.E.R.E., reaching over 2000 students and hundreds of educators in elementary, secondary and higher education, both from private and state schools. Funding by the Foundation also supported the events, conferences, workshops and summer groups organised by CY.C.E.R.E., including the successful 1st Pancyprian Scientific Conference: Environmental Outlook 2014, which brought together all the organisations concentrating on the environment on the island. Training seminars for educators were also conducted within the framework of different European programmes, such as PROFILES, GLOBE Europe and ESERA, while CY.C.E.R.E. also published scientific articles and gave presentations in internationally recognised scientific journals and conferences respectively.
