British Museum, A. G. Leventis Cyprus Curator

Through the support of the Foundation, Thomas Kiely, A. G. Leventis Curator of Ancient Cyprus at the British Museum, has continued to document and research the Cyprus collection. Besides this vital cataloguing work, the Cyprus curator has participated in exhibitions and facilitated loans enabling the public to explore the collection from new perspectives. Exhibitions included the British Museum’s I am Ashurbanipal: King of the World, King of Assyria, exploring the realm of the Assyrian king Ashurbanipal through insights into the various regions under his famously all- encompassing rule – including Cyprus. Objects, carvings and treasures from ancient Cyprus enabled visitors to learn more about this particular aspect of Cypriot history within the context of the Assyrian empire. Similarly, in An Age of Luxury, a British Museum touring exhibition showcasing a range of luxury objects from Mesopotamia and the surrounding areas, visitors from all over the world were able to engage with ancient Cypriot society and culture from a fascinating new perspective. In the UK, a special event was held at Buckingham Palace, in which Cypriot antiquities and archives from the British Museum and the Cyprus Museum were presented to HRH The Prince of Wales and HE the President of the Republic of Cyprus.
