Cataloguing and digitisation of rare books, Clare College Library, University of Cambridge

With the support of the A. G. Leventis Foundation, Clare College initiated a project to catalogue and digitise rare books from the Clare College Fellows’ Library. An initial nine books, including works of Aristotle, Euripides, Franciscus Modius, Jacob ben Asher, Walther Bruele, Guilielmus Lyndewode and Isaac Newton, were selected for digitisation. Once digitised in full, the selected 15th, 16th and 18th century books in Hebrew, Greek and Latin will provide more than 5,000 high resolution images, which will be hosted in a dedicated Clare College section on the Cambridge Digital Library website, part of Cambridge University Library. The next phase of this project will begin towards the end of 2020 and will involve the addition of more items to the digital collection – furthering this important project, which is making these rare and valuable books easily accessible to scholars worldwide.
