Workshop of Cypriot Studies, University of Athens, scholarship programme

Starting in the academic year 2013-2014, the A. G. Leventis Foundation supports an annual scholarship programme at the newly-founded Workshop of Cypriot Studies at the Department of Philology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, with the aim of furthering the study and promotion of the cultural and intellectual heritage of Cyprus. With the Foundation’s support, five exceptional master’s theses have been completed and successfully submitted to the department during this time, while two doctoral theses have been undertaken and are supervised by faculty as of September 2015. The Workshop of Cypriot Studies, the Department of Philology and the Faculty of Philosophy contribute decisively in promoting the broader programme of Cypriot Studies at the University of Athens. Particularly noteworthy is the programme for Ancient Cypriot Literature, which involves research and writing, academic teaching (both undergraduate and postgraduate) and interdisciplinary teaching in secondary education, setting ancient poetry to music (both in the Greek original and in translation) and its performance in concerts, and the organizing of seminars, symposia and conferences in Greece and Cyprus.
