Creating a guide to sustainable cassava production, Department of Zoology, University of Cambridge

The A. G. Leventis Foundation has supported a research project on sustainable cassava production in the Department of Zoology at the University of Cambridge, providing for a post-doctoral research associate to create an interactive evidence base and a guide to sustainable production of this carbohydrate-rich tuberous root that is a staple for communities around the world. Research on cassava production is critically important for global food security, as millions of people depend on cassava as their primary food staple. In sub-Saharan Africa, more cassava is produced than any other crop. Creating a guide to cassava production and covering the distribution costs for the publication of the guide will enable farmers and agricultural extension workers to make informed decisions about the agricultural and environmental outcomes of cassava farming practices. It is hoped that this project will serve as a prototype for evidence on all crops worldwide, promoting sustainable food production around the globe.
